The Town of Essex

Essex Wellness Center, in the historic riverfront village of Essex, Connecticut, sits on Main Street amidst stately private homes, boutique shops and comfortable restaurants, including the Griswold Inn. “The Gris”, opened in 1776, is considered one of the oldest continuously operating inns in the United States, and can provide overnight accommodations for our guests. With four marinas and a town dock from where you can often see swans and egrets, Essex is alive with nautical heritage. You can feel it in the Connecticut River Museum or at Steamboat Wharf where you may choose to hop aboard the Mary E, a 75-foot schooner that travels up and down the river.

Essex is a town where preservation is as important as economic development. From the colorful Trees in the Rigging holiday boat parade to the Colonial sounds of the Sailing Masters of 1812 Ancient Fife and Drum Corp in the Memorial Day parade, the town of Essex embraces its traditions and year-round family activities.

By car, we are just minutes away from the famed Essex Steam Train and Riverboat, and the Ivoryton Playhouse, which offers top-notch live theater in an intimate setting.

This is quintessential New England, an easy drive from New York or Boston, and a short taxi ride from the train station in neighboring Old Saybrook. Accommodations are available within walking distance.

Come and rejuvenate, explore the area, and let us guide your journey to wellness and optimum health.
